I will be at the Photofair, taking place in Spitalfields Traders Market on October 8th 2011 selling prints, if you happen to be in London then do pop along and say hello.
This is a further continuation of "Surveillance and Selves", an exploration of private and public selves through the medium of surveillance. In these images the sitter becomes the viewer and the audience observe him twice, firstly in the projection, secondly him watching or not watching the other self being projected around and on him.
As a continuation of my project looking at surveillance and public and private selves. The work is developing into a process of filming and extracting, filming and extracting. Its exciting not being able to predict what images I will end up with, they only become apparent after a hefty amount of time spent editing down.
I have finally got round to submitting my image for Art Below (an exhibition running across London Underground) should know fairly soon what station and dates my work will be up. I know will be up at some point in September 2011 and that it will be in either Borough, Pimlico or Elephant and Castle station.
Wonderful and inspiring work by Uta Barth. She subtly hints at what is before the viewer and at the same time offering every viewer the feeling of nostalgia. Also the wonderful paradox of both stillness and motion, busy and calm being reflected within her images.
Images of Sam playing guitar. Watching the movement of an instrument being played is as hypnotic as listening to the music it makes. The movement demand your full visual attention, while the sounds demand the full attention of your hearing.
Extracting stills from moving images, is a further abstraction from what is in front the camera. I like the blankness of these images and how there is no trace of people within them, despite the images being extracted from a moving image of people dancing.
“Our society is not one of spectacle, but one of surveillance; under the surface of images, one invests bodies in depth”
“For one whom the real world becomes real images, mere images are transformed into real beings....... the most abstract of the senses, and the most easily deceived, sight is naturally the most readily adaptable to present-day society’s generalised abstraction.”
Anyone who enjoys art or is in any way involved in art, should give Rise Art a quick look. Similar to deviant art but BETTER!!! And like everything these days you can sign in through Facebook, nice and easy.
